Yorkstone Paving in Haslemere

Haslemere sits where Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire meet — high ground, wooded hills, the South Downs in distant view. It's a quieter sort of place than its rail connection to London suggests, with a building tradition that runs through Arts and Crafts, late Victorian, and the rural-vernacular cottages of villages like Grayswood, Hindhead, Shottermill, Fernhurst, Northchapel and Lurgashall. Stone in a Haslemere garden is asked to do something specific: hold its own against mature planting and not look new for long.

We supply Yorkstone across the GU27 catchment regularly — most often riven finishes for older properties and aged Greetland for new garden builds wanting an established feel from day one. The Devil's Punch Bowl and the gardens that back onto the National Trust land towards Hindhead have their own register, and the stone that works there tends towards the weathered end of the catalogue. Reclaimed Yorkstone, genuine and at least a century in service, is also frequently asked for; we keep three grades in stock at the Cranleigh yard.

The yard is twelve miles north-east of Haslemere via the A283 — straight enough for a half-day sample visit. We hold riven, sawn, reclaimed and aged stock in parallel, which means a Haslemere customer can compare four finishes against the same hand sample in the same light. Bespoke cuts for steps, copings and unusual threshold dimensions are done in the yard by our own stonemasons before delivery, which spares the laying contractor a fitting-day surprise.
