We have officially reached the first day of spring and, if you’re anything like us, you’ll be looking forward to longer, warmer days and spending more time enjoying your garden and patio area.
You might have created a patio area to enjoy outdoor dining and soaking up the sun during the warmer months but there are so many other activities you can enjoy too. With a little bit of inspiration, we’re sure that there are so many more ways you can use or decorate your patio and garden to get the most out of it throughout the warmer months. Here’s our list of alternative outdoor activities that you could try to spend the most time outside as possible.
If you’re looking for an escape or to relax after a long day at work, why not soak up the last of the sunshine by doing yoga or meditation in the garden? Could anything be more relaxing than listening to the quiet trickle of a water feature the sound of birdsong or busy insects? Being close to nature helps you to connect with the world around you and gives you time to truly enjoy being outside.
Look at your garden as an extra room where you can go to rest, relax and recline. Include features that you find comfortable and secure to help you relax even more. Why not create a rockery in your garden to attract more wildlife to your garden and create an element that you can look at to help you imagine a more exotic location!
Take a look at Chinese, Japanese and traditional English gardens for inspiration.
Take your board game night one step further and add a giant game to your garden. Try chess, Jenga or any other giant garden game and create fun for the whole family! These games are perfect for parties and barbecues – your friends and family will certainly be kept busy by these giant games whilst you cook up a feast!
Outdoor cinemas have been a hot trend for the last few years but, if you haven’t managed to get tickets for this year or you’d prefer to watch movies in the comfort of your own home, consider creating your own outdoor cinema in your garden.
Make the most of warm summer evenings and sit under the stars whilst enjoying the latest blockbusters. Invest in a projector and set up a white sheet against the side of your house or hanging from your washing line.
If you have comfortable outdoor furniture on your patio, it’s the perfect place to host your outdoor viewing. If not, why not get bean bags, inflatable chairs or a pile of cushions and pillows out to keep yourself and your guests comfortable. Whether you have a small or large garden, your patio is the perfect place to host an outdoor cinema.
Create a reading nook
Don’t miss out on the rare UK sunshine by sitting inside with a book. The best place to read when the weather heats up is in the garden! Why not create a sheltered reading nook so that you can relax and be at one with nature whilst catching up with your favourite story. Add cushions or a bench area to the edge of your patio or a tucked away corner of your garden where you’ll be able to enjoy peace and quiet.
Having a fire pit in your garden is great for both the warm summer evenings and right through to the cooler autumn months. Gather your friends and family around and stay warm under the stars. Provide blankets and comfortable seating and while away the hours.
Spend a night under the stars in the comfort of your own home. Set up a blow-up mattress or bed of pillows on your patio or on the grass and enjoy stargazing with the comfort of your own barbecue or cooking facilities. Outdoor rugs are also a great way to make your patio area seem warmer and more inviting. If you’re not sure about the weather, you could set up a tent outside to protect you from the elements.
Why not combine a movie night, fire pit and garden sleepover for the ultimate summer get together?!Tags: landscape gardening, landscaper, stone, stone merchants, york stone, yorkstone, yorkstone paving
