Frequently Asked Questions
If you cannot find the answer to your question about Yorkstone Paving Products below, please feel free to call or email us.
What is York Stone?
York Stone is a variety of sand stone that has been quarried in the Yorkshire area for hundreds of years for use in domestic gardens and historic and commercial buildings. Well known for its hard wearing and durable qualities, York Stone has been used in a variety of building, construction and landscaping projects for many years. You will even find York Stone on the streets of London where it has been used for the pavements for its attractive qualities in addition to being extremely durable in high traffic areas.
Where does York Stone come from?
We quarry our York Stone directly from our own quarry in Halifax, Yorkshire. We only supply genuine York Stone. Please be wary of buying cheaper imitations because they’re not as hard wearing as traditional York Stone and will wear away much more quickly. We have two yards in the UK, in Halifax and in Surrey, so if you want to come and visit to see our products before you buy, please contact our team to find out more.
What is Reclaimed York Stone?
York Stone has been used across the UK in cathedrals, churches and other historic buildings for centuries. When these buildings are refurbished or demolished, the stone is sold again to be used for gardens or with listed and historic buildings in keeping with the original style. We reclaim York Stone from sites across the UK for you to use in your garden or for other projects. Reclaimed York Stone offers a more weathered and worn look to a project or can be used to match an existing project.
Where does York Stone come from?
All of the York Stone we sell comes directly from our quarry in Halifax. We also reclaim York Stone from sites around the UK.
How do I know if York Stone is right for my project?

We will show you how high quality our products are compared to other cheaper and often imported sandstone products. Our displays are designed to showcase the quality and durability of our products.
For those unable to access either of our sites, we provide free samples of our products online. Simply contact our team to order your free sample of any product.

Do I need to be there to receive the delivery?
Yes. Somebody with sufficient authority will need to be on-site to receive the delivery. Please bear in mind that delivery schedules can rarely be pinned down to specific times. We do strive to meet tight timescales but as there are many factors beyond our control, we do require some flexibility with deliveries.
